Two police officers in Kisii county are in danger of being fired after organizing a party for prisoners in the cell.

According to Kisii County Commissioner Mr Patrick Mukuria, the shocking incident happened on January 25, 2024 at the Rioma police station.

Investigations have revealed that two officers serving at the police station known as Constable Erick Mogoi and Constable Francis Ngugi were on official duty when they thought of giving the prisoners a party of illegal wine,” he said.

Mr Mukuria said that in those cells were two murder suspects who the court had ordered to be detained while the investigation continues.

“The names of the prisoners are Mathew Omanga and David Mboga. The officers sent them a ration of saffron, which is not known from where the officers had ordered it from, and the party started,” he said.

It is not known whether the prisoners asked to be entertained or whether the officers were inspired by the spirit of hospitality and saw to it that the prisoners benefited from the wine donation.

Mr Mukuria said that songs of joy and happiness from the officers and their prisoners attracted the officers of the station who decided to come and know what was going on.

Then the two officers were found drunk while singing songs of liberation, and the prisoners were in the same situation and they were spreading dances to soothe themselves while they were helpless in their cells,” he said.

The search to find out the alcohol that had made them so excited was carried out and a gourd that had been used to inject the drug was found empty inside the cell.

Then the decision was reached to transport the suspects together with the police officers to the Kisii police station and after a breathalyzer test, they were found to be extremely drunk. The Kibuyu and the alcohol blow results were kept as evidence while disciplinary measures began to be taken by the superiors,” he said.
