Manchester City Legend and Current Burnley Headcoach made history on Friday evening by earning a direct promotion to the Premier League.
Burnley Fc still has seven matches to play in order to clench the Championship title but after Luton City lost to Millwall a win against third placed Middlesbrough would mathematically guarantee them a place in the premier league for 2023/24 season.
Burnley were relagated from the premier league last season but have since flourished under the leadership of former Manchester City captain and legend Vincent Kompany to earn a promotion just after one season.
Kompany had earlier admitted that he did not think they would be earning promotion in his first year in charge. “It’s not something you can plan for. You make a plan over three or four years and then hopefully you keep progressing and you achieve your goals at the end…”he continued.
The task to acquire promotion was however not easy as they had to face a rejuvinated Middlesbrough also under the leadership of Former Manchester United Talisman Michael Carrick. Arshley Barnes put the Clarets ahed in the first half by perfectly connecting Josh Brownhill’s strike from 18 metres out.
Middlesbrough would bring themselves levels three minutes after the break with a penalty from Chuba Apkom. However, it was Connor Roberts strike at the 66th minute that secured promotion and also won the match for Burnley.
The aim now shifts to try and clench the title with Sheffield United eleven points behind with seven matches to go.
Even after Burnley’s promotion its hard to tell which team will be axed from the premier league. There are still seven games to go but the relagation battle is tighter than ever.Only three teams get eliminayed but those three slots currntly have 8 teams trying to escape from them with 12th placed Crystal Palace being 7 points away from 20th placed Southampton.
