Arsenal lost vital points in their bid to claim the premier league in the hands of Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday Evening.
Arsenal was five points clear of second-placed manchester city with eight games to go and was hoping for a win to pull them further away from the defending champions.
In a thrilling match that could have been won by either side, it was unfortunate that they had to share the spoils after a two-all draw. The result means that Arsenal is now only six points ahead of Manchester City with the latter having a game in hand.
On the other hand, Liverpool’s struggle for form continues as they failed to win a match which they have won in the last 6 encounters at the Anfield Stadium. Liverpool remains eighth in the premier league 2 points behind Brighton And Hove Albion who are on 46 points.
The match though had plenty to talk about with Arsenal being accused of failing to play in the second half leaving their opponent to dominate the half.
The first half was however a different story with Arsenal drawing first blood in the hands of Gabriel Martinneli in the eighth minute. The Brazillian reacted perfectly to a loose ball from Virgil Van Dijk to put the league leaders ahead.
Arsenal was at it again 20 minutes later when Gabriel Jesus pounced on Martinellis’s cross to make it two-nil. The host would not go down easily as Salah would connect perfectly to Hendersons’ ball three minutes to the break to reduce the deficit by one goal.
The game got a five-minute stoppage time addition and a bit of chaos erupted as Liverpool left-back Robertson appeared to be elbowed by the assistant referee. The matter has since been claimed to be under investigation.
The second half began in earnest with the visitors eager to get back into the game and in the 52nd minute would get awarded a penalty after Holding brought down Diogo Jota. Mohammed Salah stepped up to take it but unfortunately did not manage to bury it.
Arsenal would heavily depend on their shot-stopper to maintain the lead with Ramsdale pulling a string of saves. In the 87th minute though want away Robert Firmino would float in a beautiful header from Alexander Arnorlds’s cross to beat Ramsdale and equalize for the hosts. Ramsdale would be called upon to make two other important saves and ensure his team got at least a point from the match.
Both teams will be hoping for better results in the upcoming days to cement a place in European football for Liverpool as Arsenal hopes to win the league.
