Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, April 9 stated that they will only engage opposition leader Raila Odinga after he has publicly recognized William Ruto as the president.
DP Gachagua who spoke during a church service, said they cannot have a discussion because Mr. Odinga does not recognize the legitimacy of president Ruto’s win in the August 2022 general elections.
Before we can even agree to talk to him, he must first acknowledge in public that President Ruto is the president of Kenya,” Gachagua said.
Moreover, the second in command claimed that it is the Azimio coalition who reached out to President Ruto to give them an exit out of the bi-weekly protests.
“They reached out to President Ruto on Saturday, sent him somebody and said we have come to the end, the international community has abandoned us, people are against us the church we want to call off this demonstration.” He stated.
Can you please give us an exit strategy, the president said its okay, no problem go to Parliament and discuss with Kimani Ichung’wah and others and say what your issues are, those people to listen and make a decision, ” Gachagua added.
Furthermore, the second in command reported that president Ruto informed him of what the Raila Odinga-led coalition had said, and he accepted they air their complaints through parliament.
He (President Ruto) called me on a Sunday and told me what they had told him. I said fine, let them go talk to parliament but we cannot engage Raila.” The DP said.
