Another Premier League referee has been suspended by the referee body PGMOL following the match between Brighton and Tottenham Hotspurs during the weekend.
Michael Salsbury was in charge of VAR during that match and has come under fire for not overturning the referee’s decision in two penalty scenarios for Brighton.
PGMOL found itself issuing apologies yet again this time around to Brighton following the 2 -1 loss to Tottenham Hotspurs.
Kouri Mitoma appeared to be caught by Emile Hojberg inside the box in the second half while the score was still one goal a piece. Referee of the day Stuart Atwell waved away any penalty appeals from the Brighton players despite the challenge looking like an obvious penalty offense. Michael Salsbury reviewed the challenge but did not overturn the referees’ decision.
Michael Salsbury will now miss the next round of premier league matches as PGMOL continues to review major moments of the match.
Later on, in the second half, Clement Lenglet brought down Lewis Dunk inside his own half but again nothing was given to consolidating Brighton players.
The suspension follows that of Constantine Hatzidakis who is under investigation for elbowing Liverpool’s defender Any Robertson during LIverpools meeting with Arsenal.
PGMOL statement read, “Followings Brighton & Hove Albion match at Tottenham Hotspurs, PGMOL and the club have been in contact regarding a number of incidents during the aforementioned fixture.
