Seven people died on the spot while 32 others sustained injuries after a school bus ferrying mourners lost control and landed on a ditch near Kanyadiang trading centre on the Kendu Bay – Homa Bay road.
The bus belonging to Guu Secondary School based in Nyakach, Kisumu County, lost control with 39 passengers on board when the driver was trying to negotiate a corner at Pala Junction.
According to an eye witness, the bus was ferrying mourners to a funeral in West Karachuonyo and was moving from Kendu Bay towards Pala area.
Nyanza regional traffic boss Joseph Nganga confirmed the incident saying the 32 passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to various health facilities in the area for medication.
Bodies of the seven deceased persons have since been taken to the Kendu Bay Adventist Hospital mortuary.
