Uganda’s Deputy Prime Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Kadaga asked Uganda’s to attend the Nyege Nyege festival in large numbers.
While officiating over the festival on Thursday 8th, Kadaga assured the people of Uganda that no one will be stopping the festival for any reason.
“The president has requested me to assure you that all the major events in Jinja starting with this one and the Kyabazinga’s wedding happening next weekend are fully secure,” she explained.
Kadaga went on further to applaud the hundreds of attendees who had so far flocked the festival on its first day for supporting the local economy of Busoga and tourism in Uganda and urged them to enjoy themselves.
“The president has made it sure for you through me that despite the negativity that has been portrayed towards this festival, he is confident that you will dance eat and enjoy activities,” Kadaga expanded.
She continued by inviting them to invest wisely in the region so that they can also reap from next year’s edition of the festival, reiterating the festival’s economic impact on the community of Jinja and its surrounding areas.
On the other hand, the U.S. Embassy is directing its staff to not attend the Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja from November 9-12, 2023.
“We advise our Us citizens not to attend the festival due to increased terror activities. We recommend that individuals exercise an elevated degree of caution and reconsider attendance at upcoming large public gatherings,” the United Embassy stated.
This follows after several deadly attacks in recent months in Uganda have been attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.
The Nyege Nyege festival is organised by Talent Africa Group and sponsored by Uganda Waragi. It is being referred to as “the Tomorrowland of Africa” and is so far registering its eighth edition in Jinja City running up to November 12.
