The 2022/23 Kenya Hanball season is slowly but surely coming to an end. This weekend had various matches going down at the Nyanyo National Stadium but none of those was eagerly awaited as the Police derby.
The bitter rivalry between the two teams being a sight to behold since the two bodies of the defence ministry usually work in harmony.
GSU would draw first blood as KDF failed to capitalise on their first attack.KDF would then give a response on their next attack.
After that it was a sea saw affair with both teams trying by all means to get an edge on the opponent.
With the game going either way, there was need of a hero to arrise.GSU shot stoppers did just that pulling a string of impeccable saves to seperate both teams by a rnage of three goals.
KDF had two chances to catch up with GSU through to seven metre penalty throws.GSU were full of confidence and had the audacity to substitute their already performing goalkeeper for a fresh one to take the penalties. The goakeeper would repay the faith and make two fine penalty saves to ensure his team was not getting caught up on.
First half finally finished in favour of GSU with a three goal gap.
Second half startrd in earnest eiteh KDF seemingly ready to take the game by the horns with a change of tactics and personnel. That only worked for a while with GSU bwing persistent and finding a way through after a couple of tries.
The three goals gap acquired by GSU in the first half would turn to be the match winner points with both teams taking each other for a ride in the second half.
GSU would produce reathal counter attacks with their defence proving solid most of the time.Their shot stopper would continue to produce man of the match performance which kept KDF at bay.
GSU eventually ran away with the victory jumping to second on the table standings. Ulinzi will try to find their mojo back next week as the climax of the league draws near.
