Arsenal Reclaims Top Spot As Chelsea Loose Again

Martin Odegaard has now scored four goals in his last four appearances

Arsenal reclaimed the premier league top spot in the expense of Chelsea’s pride in ego at the Emirates on Tuesday night. Goals from Martin Odergaard and Gabriel Jesus ensured that the Gunners produced the perfect bounce back after losing 4-1 to Manchester City last week.
Arsenal has been on a streak of poor form losing vital points in their bid to win the Premier League title for the first time in 20 years. Manchester City caught up with Mikel Arteta’s boys and Arsenal desperately needed a win against Chelsea to put pressure on the defending Champions.

On the other hand, Chelsea has been on a worse form than their London rivals having lost their last five matches prior to the London Derby. Frank Lampard was welcomed back to the club for the second time in order to see the team over the line after the sacking of Graham Potter. He has not lived up to the expectations of losing all his six matches in charge of the Blues. Lampard has lost 31 of the last 40 matches as a manager going back to his spell at Everton.

Arsenal’s attacking prowess was again on show as Martin Odegaard scored in the 17th minute after a splendid pass from Granit Xhaka. Arsenal enjoyed most of the game playing in the opposition’s half but was lucky not to concede to Chilwells shot after a quick counterattack. There were claims of handball by Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana but the VAR so nothing wrong after a short review.

Granit Xhaka and Martin Odergaard would combine again in a similar fashion to give Arsenal a two-goal lead in the 31st minute. The goal went down as Odegaard’s 14 for the season and the fourth in his last four matches. Gabriel Jesus made it three nil three minutes later after Chelsea’s defense failed to properly clear the ball. Jesus became the fourth Arsenal player to take his tally to double figures this season. It is the most for any team in the Premier League.
Noni Madueke scored for Chelsea in the 66th minute opening his account since the January move from PSV. That’s the second goal for Chelsea in the last 8 matches but was nothing but a consolation. Chelsea’s next three fixtures include a double visit to Manchester against United and City back to back as well as Bournemouth on Saturday.

Arsenal’s next encounter is against the lethal Newcastle but will be hoping Manchester City drop points from their two games in hand.
