Bayern Munich Signs Chelsea Duo From WSL

Bayern Munich have signed captain Magdalena Eriksson and forward Pernille Harder from Women’s Super League champions Chelsea on three-year deals. The contracts of Sweden defender, Eriksson, 29, and Denmark’s Pernille, 30, were set to expire this summer.

The duo has done exemplary well with Chelsea over the course of their tenure at the club

The duo announced they would be leaving the Women’s Super League Champions early May. Eriksson made 183 appearances and won 11 trophies for the Blues after joining from Swedish side Linkopings in 2017. Pernille’s £250,000 move from Wolfsburg in 2020 was a women’s world record transfer fee.

Upon joining Bayern, Eriksson said she had a good feeling from the start. She noted that the team is an extraordinary club with an impressive history and that she could not wait to get to know her new colleagues and win together.

Bayern Munich’s head coach Alexander Straus said Pernille and Magdalena are two top players with a lot of experience adding that they’ve won several trophies and have participated in many big tournaments at club level and also on the international stage. She noted that they are a perfect addition to her team and that they bring even more quality to her talented squad that will take her team to the next level. She said that they are very excited about them joining the team.

Chelsea’s manager Emma Hayes said Eriksson would forever remain a legend at the club. Eriksson had been Chelsea’s captain since 2019.She made 18 starts and scored one goal this season as Chelsea won the WSL for the fourth successive season.

Pernille, who Hayes said is one of the best attacking players in the world, scored 44 goals in 79 games for the Blues and made seven starts this season. Bayern Munich are the current German champions after finishing two points clear of Wolfsburg.
