Devki Group of Companies Founder and Chairman Narendra Raval says his company’s expenses amount of approximately Ksh.2 billion every month.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive show, Raval said the overheads include payment of salaries and utility bills such as electricity.
The billionaire businessman who has heavily invested in steel and cement said that every month he pays Kenya Power about Ksh.900 million for electricity.
“When it is low season we pay Ksh.700 million to Kenya Power otherwise we pay Ksh.800 million to Ksh.900 million every month,” said Raval.
“I must be the largest…they should give me the award but I never got it,” the businessman commented lightly.
To illustrate how the cost of living has impacted his business, the Devki Group of Companies owner said a year ago he was paying about Ksh.400 million to Kenya Power. This, he said, is despite the company having its own alternative sources of power.
He noted that his company has directly employed about 11,000 people.
“Our overheads, salaries and power only come to Ksh.2 billion every month. So we have to look for Ksh.200 million everyday apart from Sunday,” he said.
He also disclosed that as part of his company policy, he does not do business with the government.
“I have never done work with the government…I don’t supply to the government, not today but it is part of our policy.”
“I have never dealt with the government since I was born. I’m very honest to you. Mimi ni pastor, my name is Guru,” said Raval.
He says 50 percent of his company’s income goes towards charity.
