Chemase Secondary School student Kevin Kiptanui who died while undergoing treatment at Nandi Hills Sub County is set to be laid to rest on Tuesday next week at his home in Chemase, Tinderet Sub County. Kevin died in some unclear circumstances, following a thorough beating of 22 strokes of canes from two of his teachers.

The funeral dates were confirmed following the end of a postmortem process that was conducted on Thursday at Nandi Hills Sub County hospital funeral home to determine whether Kevin truly died of the alleged beating.

Now, hope on understanding the actual cause of death, is cast on the conclusion of pathology results from a government chemist in Nairobi where samples of some earlier analysis were sent for further examination.

“This particular autopsy on Kiptanuis death incorporates either party and will come to an end once some standard samples we sent to a government chemist in Nairobi are analyzed and sent back. said Dr. Simon Omuok, a pathologist at the Nandi County consultant

Omuok further said that they had invited all the parties including Kiptanuis family members to be able to respond to claims in an equal manner. “When we performed the autopsy, all parties were present and all concerns from Kiptanuis family members were addressed,” he said.

In response, the County Director of Criminal Investigation (CDCI) Douglas Chikanda guaranteed Kiptanuis family of a timely response that would signal that justice was served as the teams selected to handle the case were treating it with seriousness. The CDCI who confirmed having been present when the pathologists addressed Kiptanuis family, said the family could even go forward to bury his body even though they were still awaiting conclusions from the government toxicology report.

“Justice will be served to everybody and I want to assure you that we are handling this matter with all the seriousness that it deserves. We can give out the body to the family so they can accord him a decent burial, lest there are any other reasons that may call for another post mortem” said Chikanda,

Charles Kiong one of Kiptanuis family members who were present, confirmed that the family was planning to lay him to rest on Tuesday as they would be contented with the taxology report that the government chemist would release.

“We are satisfied with the autopsy by the County Pathologist. We will be burying Kiptanui on Tuesday even as we wait for the toxicology results from the government chemist,” stated Kirong.
