Celebrated Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara has been appointed the Chair of the Enactus Kenya Advisory Council.
The council, which partners with 33 universities and has over the years impacted over 7000 graduates, elevated the news anchor to her new role after she served in it for the last seven years.
Sharing the news with her close to 200K Instagram followers, Okwara said she was honoured to have been appointed and added that it was her ‘greatest honour and responsibility’ to chair the council.
“I’m honoured to announce my appointment as Chair of the Enactus Kenya Advisory Council. Enactus partners with 33 universities, both public and private, and has impacted the lives of over 7000 graduates,” she said.
“I have been with the council since 2017 and have seen first-hand the importance of empowering young people to innovate and connecting them with markets,” she added.
“It is now my greatest honour and responsibility to Chair the council and reinvigorate it following the slump in activities during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In the same breath, the News Gang panel member also added that, even with the new responsibilities, she was still a journalist and that her TV duties were still very much on.
“Oh and I’m still a journalist and serving in my current role, so you’ll still see me on TV! I intend to use my strengths, networks and platform to advance the work we’ve already been doing across the country!” she said.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) confirmed that Okwara would serve as a chair of its advisory council for four years.

The big news was celebrated by many of her colleagues in the media and public circles including veteran journalist John Allan Namu and former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Roselyn Akombe among others.
“Congratulations, Yvonne. Investing in our young women and men is where we can make a difference. Proud of you as always!” Akombe wrote.
