Results from the first day were rather mixed as top flight teams bowed out of the competition: Here are the actions:

LEICESTER CITY KNOCKED OUT

Leicester City welcomed second tier club, Blackburn Rovers, to the King Power stadium. Despite the fact that they were the better team on paper, Leicester found themselves chasing the game after strikes from Tyrhys Dolan and Sammie Szmodies put the visitors in a commanding position.

Kalechi Iheanacho would come off the bench to pull one back for the home side but the damage was already done as Blackburn travelled back with a place in the next round secure.

PHIL FODEN FOR MANCHESTER CITY

Phil Foden ensured that Manchester City provided another superb result due to his brace.

Bristol City was the victim of Pep Guardiola tactics despite the fact that they were in a 12 match unbeaten streak.

Foden opened the scoring within 7 minutes and would see his short deflected late on for goal number two. Kevin de Bruyne would later curl the ball into the net from 25 metres outs to seal the deal.

FULHAM VS LEEDS

Fulham reached the 6th round for the first time in 13 years courtesy of Joao Palhinha and Manor Solomon strikes.

Leeds United found themselves looking for a way back into the game but unfortunate for them time ran out.
Brighton Still Hopes.

Brighton Hove Albion hopes for a first ever major trophy are still alive. Brighton edged 2nd tier Stoke City by a goal to nil to see them through to the next round.

Evan Furgurson first half Goal was enough to do the trick for the home side.

Still To Come

The FA cup continues later today with some interesting match ups. Southampton will welcome 16th placed league 2 side, Grimsby, while Burnley take on Fleetwood.

Carabao Cup Winners Manchester United will be hoping to produce another sublime result when they welcome Westham to Old Trafford.

Championship 2nd place Sheffield united will welcome fourth placed Premier league team, Tottenham to Bramall lane for the last kick off of the fifth round.
