Former Interior minister Fred Matiang’i’s whereabouts were on Tuesday night unclear following revelations that he left the country on February 19, just four days before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced summons for him to appear for questioning.
Where is Fred Matiang’i
“Dr. Matiang’i is in the United Kingdom, attending to an urgent, private family matter,” his lawyers clarified on Wednesday amid questions regarding his whereabouts and investigations by the police and anti-corruption agents.
The DCI had asked for the ex-minister’s travel history on the same day the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) opened a lifestyle audit on the former powerful minister in retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.
According to The Star, the bone of contention revolves around the alleged raid in which the police denied involvement and said they sought a court order to obtain CCTV footage from Matiang’i’s home.
The officers broke into his residence on February 15, ransacked his house and left.
However, Miguna Miguna, an opposition activist he once deported and denied reentry back to the country, emerged saying Matiangi had fled the country on a cargo plane.
Capial News reported he claimed the Cabinet Secretary who is facing multiple charges ranging from corruption to misinformation was concealed in freshly cut flowers headed out to the export market.
“Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i who blew up my house with bombs, forced me into exile twice once after SEDATING me and BLOCKED me from returning at the behest of conman (sic) Raila Odinga and [despot] Uhuru Kenyatta FLED into exile aboard a CARGO KLM plane on February 19, 2023. The irony of life!” Miguna charged on Twitter.
