Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reiterated that high-level positions in the Kenya Kwanza government will only be allocated to President William Ruto loyalists as he expressed confidence that his party will rule for the next century.
Speaking on Thursday when he presided over UDA’s National Party Coordinators meeting, Gachagua noted that the whole point of holding a General Election was to elect a ruling government further noting that to the victor go the spoils; as such it would be imprudent of the Kenya Kwanza administration to allocate government positions to the opposition.
“Why do we go for elections kama tunaenda uchaguzi ati wale wameshindwa wanaingizwa ndani? Iko haja gani ya kusumbua raia? Si tuachane na mambo ya uchaguzi basi tuite wazee wa nyumba kumi wagawe viti,” said Gachagua.
He further stated that the Kenya Kwanza leadership is strategically positioning and morphing the party into a national political force that will rule for the next 100 years.
The DP similarly offered his two cents on how President Ruto was photographed at three different locations, last weekend, alongside opposition chief Raila Odinga cheekily noting that the head of state does not shy away from photo opportunities.
“Umeona juzi huyo mzee (Raila) ameona president anaenda pale ati wapigwe picha. Akimwona kwa mpira anakimbia for a photograph ati ndio watu wake watulie. The president of Kenya has no problems with photo opportunities,” said the DP.
“Mkimwona mwambieni Saturday tutakuwa Limuru na Nyandarua. Sunday tutakuwa Isiolo. Akipata nafasi akuje tupigwe picha but that is as far as it will go.”
Ruto and Raila, on Saturday, May 13, graced the funeral of the late freedom fighter Mukami Kimathi in Njabini, Nyandarua County before leaving for Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi to attend the 2023 Kip Keino Classic.
On Sunday, May 14, the pair was also spotted at Nyayo Stadium where they attended the ‘Mashemeji Derby’ that pitted AFC Leopards against traditional rivals, Gor Mahia.
Raila has since insisted that his interactions with Ruto were purely coincidental.
