Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted that he will contest the 2027 presidential election, saying it would not be an option for him to support Azimio leader Raila Odinga for a sixth attempt.

Mr Musyoka – who turned 70 on December 24- said dropping his presidential ambitions again in favour of Mr Odinga, as he did in 2013, 2017 and 2022, would mean retiring from active politics because of his age.

In an exclusive  interview with NTV’s Ibrahim Karanja, Kalonzo stated that William Ruto was well aware of his longstanding desire to replace him in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that he has been in politics since 1995.

Kalonzo said that his desire to pursue the top job was fueled by a long-standing readiness that traces back to 2002 alongside his Vice Presidents stint in 2013, all which he will wield to give Ruto a worthwhile competition in the upcoming polls.

The former Vice President said he wouldn’t be shocked if William Ruto himself voted for him in the elections which he said will mimic a two-horse race.

Kalonzo who claimed that the nation urgently needed a course correction from its twisted leadership, proudly proclaimed that the Azimio La Umoja coalition won’t repeat the mistake of not being certain about their flag bearer in 2027, having learnt from it’s missteps in the 2022 polls.

He hailed Raila as an astute leader while saying that they would go the same way as their relationship has been tested and proved.

Kalonzo further added that their was a public outcry over president William Rutos’ leadership, noting that his many unmet promises have shifted a majority of citizens allegiance to his favor- even in his rift valley backyard.

While Kalonzo cleared the air and hinted at his likelihood to go after the countries’ top job, questions abound on the reality of his statements given his political ally Raila Odinga has as well pitched his interest to pursue the seat.
