Kenya Commercial Bank has unveiled a new golf tournament that will feature in 6 countries dubbed as East Africa Golf Tour. It was unveiled in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs at Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Tuesday.
The tour will take place for eight months and will feature in Kenya, DRC, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi. The tour will be an 18-leg amateur series and will fixture in sixteen counties in Kenya.
Tanzania and Rwanda will have the privilege of hosting two legs each while Burundi, Rwanda, and DRC will host one leg each.
The main aim of the tour is to boost the golf culture in the region. The tour will have women, amateurs, professionals, and budding golfers categories in an attempt to be inclusive of all.
KCB has put in 60m million Kenyan Shillings to support the tournament which is an addition to the over 300 million shillings already spent by the bankers by the bankers in relation to golf tourneys.
Sport and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba said the tour will be a top branding opportunity for Kenya which makes the country a top tourist destination in the region.

KCB Group Human FResource Director Japheth Achola described the East Africa Tour as the perfect platform that will enhance the golf culture in East Africa by encouraging participation.
“We have a rich history and connection with the game of golf over the years, and we have been instrumental in creating opportunities for hundreds of golfers, enabling them to hone their skills and make a living out of it.”He said.
The Kenya legs of the tournament will take place at Vetlab Sports Club, Eldoret Golf Club, Kakamega Golf Club, Nyanza Golf Club, Thika Sports Club, Nyeri Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club, Nakuru Golf Club, Kericho Golf Club, Great Rift Valley Lodge, Kitale Golf Club, Nyali Golf Club, Nandi Bears Golf Club, Karen Country club And Limuru Golf Club.
The winning golfers from each club will qualify for the Pro-Am finals slated for November at the Karen Country Club where 200 golfers from 40 teams across East Africa will compete for the title according to Citizen Digital.
