- These includes class eight candidates of the last lot of the 8-4-4 system and the grade six candidates of the major transition 2-6-3-3-3 system under Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)

William Ruto oversees National examinations in Kikuyu
President William Ruto oversees national exams in Kikuyu as candidates in class eight and those in grade six will today begin their KCPE and KPSEA examinations.
This year alone, a total number of 1,282,574 candidates are set to sit for their national exams country wide.
This will also mark a great transition in the history of Kenya as today after nearly four decades, the curtains will finally fall on the KCPE examination.
This year’s exams is the 39th in its history and signifies not only the end of the KCPE but also marks the closure of the 8-4-4 era at the primary school level.
The KCPE examination was first administered in 1985, marking the emergence of the 8-4-4 education system which also led to the end of the 7-4-2-3 curriculum.
Under the CBC, important changes have been adopted in the assessment of learners whereby learners sit Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) at the end of Grades 4, 5, and 6 to form the final mark at the end of primary school.
Yet, unlike the KCPE, the cumulative score of the learner will not determine the secondary school he or she will join. However, the results will just inform education managers of the learners’ academic progress in their primary school.
It doesn’t stop there, in Grade 9, the learners will also be required to take an assessment that will inform them where they join senior secondary school.
They will also be required to take another assessment at the end of Grade 12 that will inform where they proceed for tertiary education.
Education Principal secretary, Belio Kipsang has insisted that all is okay and that all registered candidates will sit for the exams.
