- CS Machogu announces shift from SMS to website for 2023 KCSE result access
- New grading system focuses on two subjects, addressing previous disadvantages
- KNEC website now central for result checking; 899,453 candidates participated in exams
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu led the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results on Monday. A total of 899,453 candidates participated in the form four national exams.
CS Machogu, speaking at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret, announced a shift from the SMS system for result access. He stated, “Candidates will no longer access their results through the SMS system. This time we have worked with engineers and experts, and we are sure that the website is working, and Kenyans will not have inconveniences we had last time.”
Candidates are now required to check their results on the KNEC website under the KCSE 2023 section. Machogu reassured candidates, saying, “The ministry has ensured the system is working.” Results will also be dispatched to sub-county education officers for distribution to exam centers.
Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang explained the move away from the SMS platform, stating, “We are building systems which will be dependent on our resources that will be available to our candidates free of charge.”
The 2023 KCSE introduced a new grading system where only two mandatory subjects, Mathematics and one language, are used to compute the mean grade. Examiners now select the five best-performed subjects from a candidate, departing from the previous 8-4-4 system.
The examinations, which took place from October 23 to November 24, aimed to address perceived disadvantages in the previous grading system, especially for learners whose best-performing subjects were outside the designated clusters.
