- Kelvin Kiptum’s burial will still be ongoing despite a woman’s attempt to get it rescheduled while claiming to have a child with the late marathoner
- High Court judge declined to grant the orders and argued that burial arrangements had gone on for some time with costs involved
- The burial had previously postponed to allow President William Ruto to attend as he had flown out of the country
A High Court has dismissed an application seeking to stop the burial of world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum.
On Thursday, February 22, Ednar Owuor, through her lawyer Joseph Oyaro moved to court seeking orders to stop Kiptum’s planned burial.
In her application, the 22-year-old lady claimed she sired a child who is now one-year and seven months with the late marathon record holder.

Owuor appeared at the court with the child seeking to stop the burial set for Friday, February 23, claiming they had not involved her in burial arrangements.
The woman further wanted DNA samples taken from the body to confirm paternity before the burial could proceed.
In his ruling, Justice Wananda declined to grant the orders sought by the woman. Wananda argued that the burial arrangements had gone on for some time with heavy costs involved, and it would be unfair to stop the interment.

“No way she would get that order and the president is supposed to attend. Had it been a normal fella, no president, that order would have been issued right away. Just goes to show you how the executive has taken over the Judiciary.”

“Even if you are the mother of his children, if he didn’t stay with you or got married to you, then you can’t claim his body.”
