Kenya Kwanza MPs Want Treasury CS Ndung’u Impeached, Accuse Him Of Incompetency

Members of Parliament affiliated with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition are urging Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u to step down from his position, warning of imminent impeachment if he refuses.

Tongaren MP John Chikati and Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku have expressed dissatisfaction with Ndung’u’s performance, accusing him of undermining President William Ruto’s agenda and subjecting the government to ridicule from the Opposition.

Chikati, who also serves as the Ford Kenya Party Secretary General, asserted, “We will impeach him very well, he is not performing. This is not the first time that Prof Ndung’u has done that. Last year it was war between Parliament and the Treasury before CDF was released.”

He criticized Ndung’u for alleged incompetency, pointing to delays in disbursing NG-CDF funds for student bursaries, claiming that the Treasury Secretary knowingly frustrated parliamentarians.

Students have reported to schools and there is no money, and most of them have been sent home since 80 per cent of county students depend on CDF for disbursement of bursaries. As far as people might want to blame the government, the Ministry heads must take responsibility,” Chikati added.

He further accused Ndung’u of impracticality in handling finance affairs, stating, “CS Ndung’u knows very well that in January students normally open; he is so erratic, he speaks very good English and economic jargon instead of practical actionable steps.”

We as Ford Kenya MPs are going to initiate signatures immediately for his removal. One year down the line he has shown incompetence and has given room to people to criticize the president,” Chikati declared.

MP Geoffrey Ruku joined the call for Ndung’u’s resignation, labeling him a ‘crybaby’ and criticizing his lack of solid management skills to support the president’s success. Ruku emphasized the need for concrete steps and solutions instead of consistently highlighting economic crises without offering remedies.

If Treasury CS Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u is unable to do his job, he should resign because one of his key roles as CS treasury is liability management of the country. We will not allow him to fail the president,” Ruku insisted.

It is reckless for the Treasury CS to wake up and tell the nation that we are in a serious crisis. Tell us we have a serious crisis but at the same time tell us what you are doing about the crisis.”

Give us concrete steps which you are taking for the country to come out of the crisis…tell us what you have done for the last year. All the time he is a crybaby, this country is not about being a crybaby, it must be driven forward by innovative thinking,” Ruku added.

Azimio coalition Secretary for Political Affairs Fred Okango, also present on the show, laughed off the Kenya Kwanza MPs’ push to impeach CS Ndung’u. Okango criticized them for endorsing leaders without considering their suitability and competency initially.

The Kenya Kwanza MPs want to impeach some CSs and yet they are the ones who endorsed them without caring to look at the suitability, competency and personal integrity of some of these people they are now wanting to remove from office…why are they crying now?” Okango noted.

“We are very happy as Azimio to help them remove any CS who is incompetent and unsuitable to hold office. This is their Damascus moment.”
