• Family members of Joyce Nginya say she went missing on Sunday.
• Confirming the incident, Mwea-west Sub-county Deputy Police Commander Sammy Beauttah said the body of Joyce Nginya, 44, was discovered days after the incident which occurred on Sunday night.
Police in Mwea East, Kirinyaga County are pursuing a man who is alleged to have killed his lover and buried his body in a shallow grave inside their house in Thiba North village.
Confirming the incident, Mwea-west Sub-county Deputy Police Commander Sammy Beauttah said the body of Joyce Nginya, 44, was discovered days after the incident which occurred happened on Sunday night.
“The matter was reported by the family members at Kiamaciri police station and after visiting the house we found the victim’s body. Joyce Nginya was buried in a shallow grave and that was when we started the process of exhuming the body after a court order from Baricho law court,” said the police boss.
Family members led by the deceased’s sister Jane Njeru said the woman went missing on Sunday.
“I was called today morning by my sister’s children who told me that their mother was missing and I was shocked to see her body buried in a shallow grave under her bed and that’s when I informed the police officers,” Jane said.
Jane said her sister had been selling miraa at Thiba shopping centre.
“I don’t know the man, I only know the former husband whom they separated in 2011 and he is also here,” Jane added.
The woman hails from Makima in Embu while her lover is from Murang’a County.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kerugoya hospital mortuary as a manhunt for the suspect continues.
