- KMPDU issues 21-day strike notice to Uasin Gishu County over CBA violation
- Dr. Atellah accuses county of paying consultants as interns, halting medical practitioners’ salaries
- Ongoing discussions at MTRH to address discrimination and renegotiate contractual terms for doctors
In a press conference held in Eldoret town today, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General, Dr. Davji Atellah, declared a 21-day strike notice against the County Government of Uasin Gishu. The union alleges a breach of the previously agreed-upon Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Addressing the press, Dr. Atellah accused the county government management of creating frustration among consultants by disbursing salaries equivalent to those of interns. He further highlighted that the county government has ceased salaries for medical practitioners, compelling them to endure financial hardship while fulfilling their duties.
Dr. Atellah emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues, stating, “We cannot continue to work with empty pockets. The county government’s actions are not only demoralizing but also undermine the agreements we have in place.”
In addition to the grievances against Uasin Gishu County, Dr. Atellah revealed ongoing discussions with doctors at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH). The aim is to negotiate a new CBA to address prevalent challenges, including alleged discrimination and the prolonged duration of being under the same contractual terms.
The KMPDU is urging swift action and a commitment from the relevant authorities to rectify the current situation to avert the impending strike and ensure the well-being of medical practitioners in the region.
