Raila forced to leave as Turkana cultural fete turns chaotic
Police officers had to man the dias where Odinga was sitting alongside other opposition leaders, securing the perimeter for the evacuation of the Azimio leader.
Odinga accused local leaders led by Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai of instigating the chaos, which he said was the peak of political intolerance that should be condemned across all quarters.

“Mr Ruto was here yesterday and as has been his nature now and practise he made all these empty promises for what he wants to do in this region but I know there is a lot of disconnect between the rhetoric and the reality on the ground so what I want to tell the people is that they need to unite with the people of Kenya,” Raila said.
Speaking to the media moments after they had left the venue, Raila claimed State House had a hand in what happened.
“I don’t need anybody’s permission to come to Turkana. The region voted overwhelmingly for me in previous elections. The Governor of this county was elected on an ODM ticket,” Raila said.
President William Ruto officially opened the cultural celebration on Thursday, where he vowed to tighten security measures to ensure the safety of residents of Turkana County.
The event brings together the Ateker cluster communities along Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia borders to celebrate and share their rich cultural heritage, including dressing, food, song and cultural dance, among others.
