Members of the community lauded the Supreme Court Ruling saying that they also deserve the right and freedom to associate like other people in the country.
Moments after the ruling, religious bodies reacted, harshly condemning the ruling saying it was going against the values of Kenyans.
A section of politicians also came forward criticising the Apex Court ruling with Peter Kaluma sponsoring a bill that seeks to criminalise homosexuality in Kenya.
In an interview shared on NTV Kenya, LGBTQ+ activist Po Kimani shared her concerns about the consequences of political and church leaders’ stand.
“I wonder if I told them that I spend every of my life fighting for justice and access to land, and access to homes for homeless people, does it give them more value to the life I have as an intersex person living in Kenya? So a lot of the conversation has to stop being pipetting hate,” she said.
They also brushed off claims that they want to be registered so as to receive funding from international organisations.
Another activist Alvin Mwangi also echoed Kimani’s statements saying that it could lead to a lot of hate for the community.
“You actually see most of the messages from MP. They are trying to encourage violence, stigma and discrimination,” he said.
Kenyans online have been sharing their opinions on the ruling which has seen people share divided reactions with some fighting for people in the community.
