Actress Lupita Nyong’o was overjoyed when she serendipitously encountered a Nairobi matatu adorned with a graffiti featuring Marvel cinematics’ Nakia on its rear side.
The thrilled actress who recently separated from her South African boyfriend, recording the matatu on her phone, praised the graffiti artist, noting that they had done their best to capture the essence of the real Nakia.
Lupita, who posted the video on her TikTok, can be heard in the background expressing astonishment at the rare encounter and imploring on whether the graffiti they were seeing in a matatu far ahead of them was Nakia.
Lupita, who confirmed the identity as Nakia’s upon approaching the matatu, explained that the distinctive ring blades she donned in her Black Panther role were the key signature that assured her it was indeed Nakia that the artist aimed at.
“I think that’s supposed to be Nakia, in the back of that bus. What!! Hahaha!! He tried. The people tried. The ring blades give it away.” She said in the video.
Nakia is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Christopher Priest and Mark Texeira, the character first appeared in Black Panther volume 3 in November 1998.
Lupita Nyong’o herself portrayed Nakia in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Black Panther (2018) and the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).
