In a recent interview with TV 47’s Frank Inidmuli, Martha Karua, the leader of the National Rainbow Coalition (Narc) Kenya, expressed her view on the endorsement of Kalonzo Musyoka by Raila Odinga.
The discussion was prompted by President Ruto’s recent statement indicating his preparation to face off with Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 presidential election, suggesting that Kalonzo might be the Azimio Coalition’s presidential flagbearer, rather than the long-standing politician, Raila Odinga.
Despite Raila Odinga’s consistent pursuit of the country’s topmost job over the years, it remains to be seen whether Kalonzo will become the party’s presidential flagbearer.
While Karua never talked much about this significant twist in Kenyan politics, it’s end will possibly mean Raila’s retirement from active politics.
However, during the interview, Martha Karua did not disclose her own political aspirations or the specific position she intends to vie for.
She explained that her focus at the moment was on more pressing matters, including the cost of living crisis.
Karua emphasized her stance on Raila Odinga’s right to endorse Kalonzo Musyoka, stating, “My leader Raila Odinga clarified on the matter of endorsing Kalonzo Musyoka. Let’s assume if he was to endorse Kalonzo Musyoka, there would be absolutely nothing wrong with that. He is entitled to endorse whomever he feels like, but that doesn’t lock the doors for anyone else; the power is with the people.”
The discussion surrounding the potential endorsement and its implications for the 2027 presidential election continues to be a topic of interest in Kenyan politics.
