Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to thoroughly question police officers responsible for guarding her official residence in connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of blogger Daniel Muthiani, also known as ‘Sniper.’
During a service at the Baite Family Fellowship (BFF) in Makutano, Governor Mwangaza emphasized the need for transparency, urging investigators not to be influenced by bias.
The governor, addressing concerns that the blogger may have visited the official residence before his disappearance, clarified that the property is under constant police surveillance.
Mwangaza underscored the importance of unbiased investigations, stating, “We do not live in a banana republic. We want justice, not only for that child but everybody in Meru.”
Expressing concerns about potential political influence, she added, “We do not want bad politics in Meru. We will be demanding justice and for the government to undertake its mandate.”
Mwangaza also refuted social media claims that her son was arrested in connection with the case, labeling it as “pure propaganda.”
The DCI Coordinator in the Eastern region, Lenny Kisaka, confirmed that the governor’s official residence was one of the scenes being examined by forensics experts. Kisaka emphasized that multiple scenes were under scrutiny as part of the comprehensive investigation.
The police have already made several arrests, including Frederick Muriuki Kiugu, Timothy Kinoti, Kenneth Mutua Matiri alias Gasigi, Frankline Kimathi alias Ras, and Kenneth Murangiri Guantai, a brother to the governor, along with Vincent Murithi.
Muthiani, a vocal critic of Governor Mwangaza, was found dead, prompting a heightened investigation into the circumstances surrounding his murder.
The governor’s plea for impartiality reflects the community’s demand for justice in a case that has stirred political and public interest in Meru.
