- Omanga defends Ruto’s Mukuru comparison, highlighting Affordable Housing Project’s potential benefits
- Media visit raises doubts about accuracy of President Ruto’s Europe analogy for Mukuru
- Omanga criticizes media for perceived trend of “faking ignorance” in their reporting
Former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has come to the defense of President William Ruto, supporting his analogy of Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums to Europe.
President Ruto, during a media roundtable on Sunday, praised the transformation of the slum, attributing it to the Housing project launched last year.
“I want to ask you to go to Mukuru where we are building 14,000 houses. If you go there today, you will not think it is a slum; you will think it is from Europe,” President Ruto stated.
However, a recent visit by journalists from Nation Media to Mukuru Kwa Njenga revealed challenges such as submerged houses and poor drainage, casting doubt on the accuracy of the President’s comparison.
In response to a video shared by the outlet, Omanga asserted her belief that the Affordable Housing Project, given time, will significantly enhance the quality of life and reshape Mukuru’s image.
“On Mukuru kwa Njenga slums looking like Europe, isn’t it a fact that the ongoing affordable housing project is greatly transforming the quality of lives and the image of the estate?” she wrote.
Omanga took issue with what she perceived as a tendency to “fake ignorance” by the media house.
“I can see it has become fashionable for even the most knowledgeable to fake ignorance,” Omanga asserted.
