MP Peter Salasya Accuses Government of Mishandling MPs in Rwanda

  • The EAC Parliamentary Games began on December 4 and have run for 12 days in Kigali, Rwanda.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has aired his lamentations to the government after what he claims is neglect shown to Kenyan Members of Parliament who attended the just-concluded East African Community (EAC) Parliamentary Games in Kigali, Rwanda. The outspoken lawmaker took to his online platforms to register his grievances, calling out President William Ruto’s administration for the poor treatment meted on the honourable members while also claiming that they were having a hard time settling their hotel bills in a foreign country even after promises that their financial needs would have been met.

In his usual lengthy rants, while standing outside what appeared to be a hotel, a dismayed Salasya urged the President to put his house in order, shocked that even Members of Parliament would be subjected to such humiliation.

“Tunachekelewa ati tumeshindwa kulipa ma hoteli baada ya kudanganywa they will send us money here in Rwanda. If they can lie to members of Parliament, what of the rest? Nimeboeka tu sana they could have told us earlier they won’t send us money to sustain us here .Aibu kubwa kwa nchi, ” he captioned the video.

Addressing the matter at length, Salaysa claimed that Kenyan MPs were being dragged through shame while also directly challenging the President to tell Kenyans ‘the truth’ and also rein in his non-performing Cabinet Secretaries.

“Members of Parliament wana kuwa subjected kwa aibu. Na wewe unasema nchi iko sawa. For how long shall we live on a lie? President, wewe ndio Baba wa Taifa. You must take charge and control. You must tell Kenyans the truth. The problem with the President is that, he never tells people the truth. We need to have a national conversation tujue where are we going, ” he ranted.

“Saa hii tuko hapa Rwanda. Polisi wangenishika mimi. President, watu walikuchagua uwafanyie kazi. Fire your cabinet ministers ambao hawafanyi kazi!”

The EAC Parliamentary Games began on December 4 and have run for 12 days.

The Kenyan contingent in Kigali, Rwanda, was jubilant on Wednesday after the men’s and women’s volleyball teams and the men’s basketball side won their respective matches.

Rwanda, Uganda, South Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, and the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) were the other teams in the 13th edition of the games.

The Kenya men’s volleyball team maintained their winning streak in the tournament with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, and 25-20) victory over Rwanda at Ecole Notre Dame Gymnasium to edge closer to the title.
