- A middle aged man from Nyandarua will spend the next two years in jail after a court verdict determined that he had sold chips that had been fried using transformer oil.
- The man Elijah Mwangi was arrested by police officers on December 2021 in possession of 11 litres of the commodity at a hotel in Olkalou Nyadarua county.
- The man was not only using the oil to fry chips, but also repackaged it for sale under the tag that it was fresh popcorn cooking oil.

A middle aged man was yesterday sentenced to two years in jail by a Nyandarua court after the judge determined that some 11 litres of transformer oil he was nabbed with on February 2021, had been used to fry chips.
The man Elijah Mwangi, who even sold the fries to several unsuspecting locals in his Olkalou restaurant in Nyandarua willn only see himself off the hook, in the case he manages to raise a kshs 200’000 cash bail.
Documents presented in court clarified that the oil, stolen from a Kenya Power and lighting authority KPLC transformer, had not only been used to fry the chips but also packaged for sale,

as popcorn cooking oil.
