Comedian and celebrity MC, Oga Obinna, has advocated for the enactment of a law that would encourage women to carefully consider and seek the consent of their male partners before unilaterally deciding to keep a child.
Obinna clarified his intended message, stating that a significant number of women usually proceed to retain a pregnancy alleging that they will match up the child’s upkeeps without respecting their partners reservations and pleas in not having a baby at that moment.
He mentioned that even though there appears to be a mutual understanding that the man should not be extensively involved in the baby’s affairs once the woman moves on with her decision, a considerable number of women aggressively confront their child’s fathers later on, hurling insults that they are deadbeat and threatening to expose them if they don’t send upkeep money.
He said this often happens when the woman notices a positive change in their baby daddies life, probably a plan to settle in a new relationship or rather in the form of a job promotion.
Obinna said most women who had earlier on said they would not involve the man in the child’s affairs end up appearing at their workplaces creating drama and accusing them of having run away from their fatherly duties.
He expressed the view that the prevalence of non-consensual relationships, where a woman decides to proceed with a pregnancy without the explicit approval of her male partner, should be mitigated through the enactment of a childbearing consent law. This he said would caution men against this phenomenon which is coming up at a nerve-wracking pace.
He explained that the majority of women who insist on getting pregnant atop the man’s pleas for her not to are usually laying traps upon which they will frustrate the man in the future.
For this, he said that by the time a woman starts pregnancy, the two parties should have signed a childbearing consent form that will ensure either of the parties decision is aired for easy reference in future.
Obinna who now hosts Obinna show, said children are paying heftily for these kind of haphazard decisions by their parents in turn ruining their lives and making then undergo much turbulence during their younger years.
