- Police officers are now bothered that the number of suicides in the country is rising twice as fast.
- In different reports, they affirmed having had to respond to over four suicide cases on a single day.
- This comes amid a heartbreaking case of a patient at Pangani Radiant hospital who is alleged to have died after jumping from his 10th floor ward.
Police are probing statements asserting that a patient, Samuel Kuria, 37, succumbed after jumping from the tenth floor of his ward in Nairobi’s Pangani area.
According to witnesses and evidence drawn from the scene, the patient who had been admitted at the radiant hospital slipped from the 10th floor of his ward and slumped on the roof of an adjacent building’s roof when the components of his body burst and dissipated across the floor. He died shortly after.
Police officers from a nearby station who were called to help gather more concrete information regarding the patients death, said they commenced their investigations immediately after landing at the scene. However nothing much has been found as at now, from the incident that happened on the evening of Saturday March 11.
The officers also scrutinized the body which was later hauled to the mortuary where further examinations including an autopsy were to be conducted.
Although the regional police commander for Nairobi region Mr Adamson Bungei sent a team of detectives to aid with the probe, he expressed concern that the cases of suicide within Nairobi had greatly skyrocketed in the recent days.
Even with the many calls from officers, activists and doctors to contain the trend, the cases continue to happen.
Police officers according to reports, said they responded to nearly over four suicide cases on a single day, demonstrating the dire need to address the issue and create safe spaces and environments where people can easily speak up about their troubles.
He said they are yet to establish the motive for the same.
