Four people including two police officers were injured after police vehicle plunged into river Rupingazi in Kirinyaga County on Sunday morning.
The Administration Police (AP) vehicle plunged into the river located along Mwea -Embu highway.
According to Mwea -East police commander Daniel Kitavi, the vehicle was heading to Kanyonyo AP training centre in Kitui from Nyeri.
Kitavi said the driver of the police vehicle was trying to avoid hitting a boda boda operator who had developed mechanical problem along the Rupingazi bridge.
Kitavi said traffic police officers from Wang’uru police station arrived immediately and the officers and boda boda operator were rushed to Embu Level Five Hospital after sustaining injuries.
Njukiini Ward MCA Timothy Kariuki said he was shocked as accident happened just after he crossed Rupingazi bridge.
Kitavi said police officers are trying to remove the vehicle from the river and have safeguarded weapons belonging to the victims.
