The government is increasing investment in fish farming in Nyanza Region to stimulate the economy.
President William Ruto on Friday began his four-day development tour in the region by launching the Kabonyo Fish Farming Training and Services in Kabonyo, Kisumu County.
The facility will be used to produce up to 10 million juvenile fish each year, which will help restore Lake Victoria.
The President said the project will not only expand employment opportunities but also strengthen food security and nutrition.
He said the Government is building eight Fish Landing areas to further strengthen fish farming in the area.
“We will ensure the landing sites have cold storage, processing and shore management units to maximize profitability,” he explained.
He said the Government wants to revive rice farming, help farmers venture into sunflower production and solve challenges in the sugar sector to stimulate economic growth.
President Ruto said the Government is keen on reviving rice farming, supporting farmers to venture into sunflower production and addressing challenges in the sugar sector to spur economic growth.
He also appealed to Kenyans to embrace peace as a way of attracting more investors to develop the country’s economy.
“No investment will come to Kenya if we are violent. We must ensure that wea re a peaceful nation otherwise we will loose investments,”President Ruto Said.
He was speaking when he visited Victory Farms, a fish production Company located on Rowo Beach in Suba, Homabay County.
Later, the President presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for Urenga Level 4 Hospital in Ugenya.
“The innovative health investments we are making will strengthen our patient management and enhance surveillance and disease prevention,” he told the public.
He also opened the Mutumbu Information, Communication and Technology Center in Gem, Siaya County.
President William Ruto’s four day Nyanza development tour spells hope for the road networks in the region after he launched three key infrustructural palns to open up the region for the economic transformation of the area.
Among the roads launched by the president with various links to open up tke area include, upgrading the standards of Mbita -Sindo- Kiabuya- Sori roads in Homabay County
The 74km road being constructed by KeRRA traverses parts of Nyatike Constituency in Migori County and Suba North and South constituencies in Homabay County.
“It will also ease the transportation of fish and farm produce to markets thereby uplifting the livelihoods of farmers in the region inline with the governments Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” He said.
The President was accompanied by Ministers Eliud Owalo, Susan Nakhumicha, Rebecca Miano and Salim Mvurya, Governors Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu) and James Orengo (Siaya), Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda and Majority Leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah.
Also present were David Ochieng’ (Ugenya), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Mathias Robi (Kuria West), Marwa Kitayama (Kuria East), John Makali (Kanduyi), Paul Abuor (Rongo), Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes), John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Felix Odiwor (Lang’ata) and local Ward Representatives and other leaders.
