President William Ruto’s regime has disclosed a grand new plan of constructing a new international airport to ease the crowding at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Speaking before the senate on Wednesday the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen affirmed that the new international airport will be an adjacent to JKIA.
The CS was very clear in mind engrossed that in the coming three years they will have to deliver a brand new airport that will be the distinguishing feature for his government.
“We cant have an airport that is older than myself which was built in 1978. I want to be a participant of President Ruto’s grand plan to give us something new,” he stated.
“I am very sure in my mind that by the year 2026-2027 we ought to be singing a new airport,” the CS continued.
It is estimated that the construction of an international airport with basic components such as the runaway, hangar, parking area, terminal building and taxiway could cost up to sh15billion.
The CS made the disclosure when he appeared before the senate to respond to plans to fix problems at JKIA among other matters.
However, the planned project received criticism as Senate Deputy Minority leader, Enoch Wambua terming it as misplaced priority at a time where many Kenyans cannot afford food.
Less than weeks ago, the JKIA airport was on the spotlight after travelers complained that their luggage had gotten wet because the facility has no canopies and shelters for travelers during rainy seasons.
Videos saw the international airport trend on Twitter as Kenyans were shocked at the rate of deterioration the airport has been experiencing.
