Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga has sent his condolences to the pwani university fraternity following the deadly road carnage that happened earlier today, killing at least 16 people.
In a tweet on his official twitter handle, the former prime minister said he was extending his sincere condolences majorly to the school staff and students who were arguably the main victims in the tragic accident that occurred shortly before noon.
So far, at least 16 have been confirmed dead after the bus which was transporting students and lecturers to a sports event collided with a matatu at the Kayole Bridge on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Kisilu Mutua confirmed this number of fatalities but said more bodies could still be in the bus.
“That is the latest figure but the number could be higher. I am still getting updates from traffic officers and hospital authorities,” said the administrator when addressing journalists, a few moments later.

Rift Valley police boss Tom Odera had confirmed that 14 people died on the spot and others in the hospital. However h expressed fears that the death toll could keep on rising. In the latest update the number of casualties had already skyrocketed to 16, after two others died at a nearby hospital where the survivors were rushed to.
Naivasha sub-county hospital experienced a chaotic disclosure with medical personnel making heist to attend to the approximately 86 victims who had been transferred to the hospital for treatment.
The hospital’s medical superintendent, Bernard Warui, who also spoke to the media said the situation was rather out of hand but were working around the clock to bring the situation into containment.
“The bus rolled and killed 14 on the spot. We may have more casualties,” he said.
Pwani University Deputy Vice Chancellor James Kahindi explained students were heading to the Chepkoilel campus in a convoy of two buses and four drivers for a national sports tournament, when the tragedy came about.
“The students left the school this morning and on reaching Naivasha, they had an accident. We have asked our chief security officer, who was in Nairobi on official duty, to go there and give us more information so we can inform the public”
