Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called on President William Ruto to act on Transport and Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, alongside his Public Works counterpart Moses Kuria.
In a social media post, Cherargei said Murkomen is worse than Kuria, the difference being that Kuria rants on social media while Murkomen insults people in public gatherings.
“CS Moses Kuria is a national embarrassment that doesn’t care about respecting anyone including the appointing authority plus institutions such as Senate but he is not alone, he is in the good company of CS Murkomen who insults, belittles anyone and everyone, but Kuria only tweets but Murkomen is worse. He takes the mic and bullies, insults and demeans the people and elected leaders even in funerals! The appointing authority must reign in on these rogue cabinet Secretaries,” Cherargei fired.
His sentiments were in tandem with fellow senators who on Wednesday said CS Kuria should be fired over his remarks on social media, which they said belittled the Senate.
Cherargei’s fallout with Murkomen came a week ago when they clashed over tendering in Nandi County during the burial of the son of Chesumei MP Paul Biego Polo.
In the funeral, Cherargei demanded that Murkomen awards a tender to one of the Nandi county contractors to build a road in the area, saying that Nandi residents should be given priority over outsiders.
The sentiments did not sit well with Murkomen who hit back at the Senator, saying he was promoting tribalism for advocating for a local contractor over those who had won the tender.
Murkomen said the country is lucky because President William Ruto doesn’t have the brain of Cherargei.
The CS also said he is not part of the team awarding tenders, but warned that any Kenyan is lawfully qualified to work anywhere in the country.
