Machakos senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama has called on President William Ruto to stop revoking title deeds of land that has not been developed for over ten years.

The senator said on Monday that nobody has a right to take someone’s land whatsoever and the law doesn’t allow that in Kenya.

She termed it sad to hear the president say that title deeds would be revoked from landowners.

Muthama said that some of the owners can’t even put their foot on their land in different places as some have been taken by the cartels and needed security to access their lands and develop.

She cited the Drumvale farmers in Kamulu where she said many of the owners can’t access the lands.

“The non-development in the said lands is not their will but fear for their lives thus the government should provide security to the owners,” Senator Muthama said.

On the ongoing demolitions in Mavoko, Kavindu said it was sad for the government to say that it wants affordable housing by paying taxes yet those who have built the houses have been brought down.

“The question remains what the difference is in building affordable housing yet the same government is demolishing others,” she said.

Kavindu spoke after meeting over 500 shareholders of Drumvale Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Kamulu.

During a tour of Athi River, Machakos County on Friday, President Ruto ordered titles of land in the Athi River Export Processing Zone (EPZ) that has not been developed for more than ten years be revoked.

“I have given clear instructions to the management here that all speculators, people who have held titles to pieces of land for 10 to 30 years without developing them, be revoked so that we can give it to people who want to use this facility,” Ruto said, as he directed the Ministry of Land to move with speed and revoke the titles.
