The highly anticipated housewarming party hosted by Citizen TV journalist Stephen Letoo came to an abrupt halt when gunshots rang out from two warring communities, casting a shadow over the festive occasion.

The incident unfolded on Friday, during a momentous gathering attended by prominent political figures and media personalities, leaving guests scrambling for safety.

The evening was supposed to be a joyous celebration at Letoo’s newly inaugurated residence in Kilgoris, Narok County.

However, it acted out as vivid reminder of the region’s tumultuous history of tribal clashes. The unexpected disruption occurred at approximately 5:30 pm, just as Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu was addressing the attendees.

The tension escalated as gunshots echoed in the distance, and reports of a nearby village being targeted added to the chaos.

Guests, who had been relishing the festivities, were left with no choice but to flee for their safety.

YouTuber Grace Makena, a journalist who has attended the event told Mpasho News that while no partygoers were injured, casualties were reported among the two communities allegedly involved in the skirmish. “This happened at around 5:30, just as people were enjoying their meal. The gunshots continued for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and most of the attendees decided to leave,” she explained.

Despite the unexpected incident, 98% of the day’s program had been successfully executed.

Unfortunately, a planned after-party scheduled for later in the evening had to be canceled due to the violence. The Thanksgiving ceremony, also known as “Letoo Day,” was hailed as a significant success.

The event saw the slaughter of five bulls, with a diverse array of guests in attendance, including political leaders, friends, family members, and colleagues from the media fraternity. Notable figures like Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, Governor Simba Arati, and MPs Julius Sunkuli and David Ole Sankok graced the occasion, alongside prominent media personalities such as Linus Kaikai and Jamila Mohamed from Citizen TV.
