The Ugandan High Court delivered a landmark verdict on Wednesday, condemning Musa Musasizi to a staggering 105 years in prison for the brutal murders of five women and an infant in Nakulabye, Rubaga Division, Kampala. Musasizi, who pleaded guilty to the charges, confessed to his heinous crimes during the trial.
Arrest and Charges:
The unemployed youth was apprehended on March 14, 2021, following the deaths of Noreen Nabirye, Violet Kansiime, Abigail Nakitende, Elizabeth Mutesi, and a three-month-old baby. Initially charged with six counts of murder, Musasizi was remanded to Kitalya prison after his appearance before Mwanga II Magistrate’s Court.
Justice Margaret Mutonyi said the long sentence was necessary to protect young women, including Musasizi’s six-year-old daughter, the privately-owned NTV channel reported.
Details of the Grisly Murders:
Court proceedings revealed a gruesome pattern as Musasizi would court his victims, engage in intercourse, and then mercilessly end their lives. His methods included using a blunt object to strike their heads or strangulation. The bodies were dumped in close proximity in Nakulabye, later set ablaze by the assailant.
Accomplice and Additional Charges:
In a separate case, Musasizi faced joint charges with 23-year-old ‘boda boda’ rider Abdul Kasaija for the murder of Mackline Ahereza on February 22, 2021. Kasaija was also accused of aiding Musasizi in disposing of Ahereza’s body to evade justice.
Motives Unveiled:
Police investigations revealed chilling motives behind the murders. Musasizi confessed to suspecting Mackline Ahereza of having another boyfriend, leading to her death. Additionally, he disclosed strangling Violet Kansiime and her three-month-old baby after a confrontation. Elizabeth Mutesi met a tragic end when she rejected Musasizi’s inadequate financial offering after an intimate encounter.
Evidence
Authorities recovered clothing belonging to Musasizi’s victims from a neighbor’s latrine. The convicted murderer provided a detailed confession to the police, shedding light on the shocking sequence of events that terrorized Nakulabye.
