Kipchumba Murkomen affirms that most airport projects are uncompleted because they were given to unqualified contractors who couldn’t deliver but to waste money and taint the reputation of the current government.

Transport Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen now claims that Uhuru Kenyatta’s government is responsible for the dripping roofs at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Speaking during a press briefing at JKIA on Tuesday 13th November, the CS confirms that the Kenya Kwanza government took over the office at a time when the airports were at a bad state.

“When we got to the office, we found out that many of our airports are in a pathetic state and JKIA leaking is a result of that,” he said.

Murkomen added that the renovation at JKIA in terminal 1C and I1 was sub-standard because it was only meant to serve temporarily.

“Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime rushed the projects and didn’t reach the required standards of maintenance leading to long term neglect.”

Murkomen said the issue of power outage at JKIA is also part of the poor work done by Uhuru’s regime.

“I have directed the management of the Kenya Aviation Authority to consider addressing the power outage issue and come up with a permanent solution and make further improvements,” he said.

According to Murkomen, the process of installing an automatic generator is ongoing and urged the contractor to speed up.

“I have directed the contractor on site to install a generator but has been slow arguing that going faster could disrupt the wiring in other areas that had electricity at JKIA,” he said.

Murkomen said the current government is determined to solve all the problems and bring better services to the JKIA.

Less than one week ago, the airport was on the spotlight again after travellers complained that their luggage had gotten wet because the facility has no canopies and shelters for travelers during rainy seasons.

Videos saw the JKIA airport once again trend on Twitter as Kenyans were shocked at the rate of deterioration the airport has been experiencing.

A video that was shared by financial platform Mwango Capital showed a section of the airport flooded and the check in area getting battered by rain water that was leaking through the roof.
