Mwangi was discharged on November 13 but is held captive due to an unpaid balance. Despite numerous attempts, the family’s pleas to the company’s management remain unanswered

Benjamin Mwangi Ndive, employed at a Ruiru affordable housing project construction site, sustained a severe head injury when a stone fell on him during work, prompting immediate hospitalization in Nairobi.

Despite successful surgery and subsequent recovery, Mwangi remains detained, caught in a financial quagmire due to a Ksh.1.1 million medical bill.

His employer committed to covering the expenses but has only paid Ksh.340,000, leaving the family in distress.

Mwangi’s brother, Joseph Ndive, recounts the harrowing incident, stating, “Ndugu yangu aliangukiwa na mawe wakiwa pale mjengo…niliona ndugu yangu akitolewa kwa ambulance na alikuwa amejeruhiwa vibaya.”

Simon Ndive, Mwangi’s father, expressed disappointment, saying, “Alipoletwa hivi kutoka kwa ambulance hungesema bado anaishi…alikuwa anaonekana ameenda.”

The construction company responsible for the medical expenses has only fulfilled its promise partially, leaving Mwangi with an unpaid balance.

Despite multiple attempts to contact the company’s management, the family’s pleas remain unanswered.

“Ukimpigia simu hachukui…sisi tulimwachia kila kitu…alisema anaendelea kutafuta pesa,” Simon Ndive stated.

Despite reporting to the police and receiving a letter from the Ruiru area chief on December 18, the family’s efforts to secure Mwangi’s release have been futile. Two weeks later, Mwangi continues to be confined, intensifying the family’s desperation.

As Mwangi lingers in the hospital, there is growing concern that the medical bill will escalate, adding to the family’s distress. The plea for justice echoes louder, urging swift action to resolve this poignant situation.
