The fourth edition of the Absa Kip Keino classic athletics event will go down at the Moi International Stadium on Saturday the 13th May.
The Kip Keino Classic is named after the veteran Kenyan Marathon runner and Olympian Kipchoge Keino and has been dominated by Kenyan especially in the men’s category.
Kip Keino Classic was inaugurated in 2020 as part of the World Athletics Gold Tour and has grown from grace to grace as each year has proven to be much better than the previous edition. This year though might be the greatest of all the previous events held due to a number of reasons.
The most importance aspect for any event in order to be termed as a success has always been the availability of the audience. The 4th Edition will see Kenyans access the Kasarani Stadium for free in order to celebrate their local heroes. The one day event will also be aired live on Super sports and local TV channels as well as online streams.
Kip Keino Classic 4th edition has attracted more than 200 international athletes which paves way for stiff competition while heaving entertainment on the audience. The number is the largest ever since conception of the event which again highlights how special this edition might be.
Kenyan made and Africa fastest man,Ferdinand Omanyala had earlier promised to break the African record over the 100 m dash during the Kip Keino classic which is what all the Kenyan fans want to see. Omanyala has been in red hot form breaking the national 150 metres record last week in Atalanta Adidas City games. He well understands that the event will not be a walk in the park as it has attracted the 4*100 m relay Champion Justin Gatlin from Canada.World 100 m silver medallist Marvin Bracy from U.S.A will also be seeking to spoil the part for the local hero and the defending Kip Keino Classic champion.
Still in the 100 m race, the woman category has Fraser-Pryce in its midst. Pryce is the most decorated women in the 100 m and will be looking to retain the Kip Keino Classic medal having done so last year.
The Javelin will also be special as the 2016 Olympic Silver Medallist Julius Yego will face tough competition from 25 years old Anderson Peters . Anderson Peter is a 2 Time World Champion in Javelin and will be participating the Kip Keino Classic for the first time. Whether he came topple Yego in his home ground will be seen on Saturday.
On top of that Safaricom has injected 9.2 million into the event to ensure smooth coverage and transmission of the event as well as topping up the athletes that will break records at the event.
